Welcome to Kōkua Tree!
Kōkua, in the Hawaiian language, means “help.” Its deeper meaning, however, is to extend help to others in a sacrificial way, with no intent of personal gain. It means to support others without self-regard.
Our Mission
“1 in 9 people face hunger in Hawaii, with 1 in 5 being children.” - Feeding America
The Kōkua Tree and its members work together to battle food insecurity and reduce food waste across the state of Hawaii. Fully student run and based in Oahu, our non-profit organization strives to create a more sustainable community, one fruit at a time.
What we do:
With our volunteers, we work in backyards and farms to harvest fresh fruits and vegetables to donate to various food pantries across the island.
Our impact during 1 year of operation:
- 65+ volunteers
- 21 harvests held
- 3,003 pounds of fruit donated
- 7,508 pounds of CO2 reduced
